THE STAYCATIONERS: SoHo Grand
Lights, camera, downtown satisfaction. It’s 2017, and we’re channeling the rock goddesses and femme fatales of the ’70s — because who doesn’t want to resurrect these boss babes straight from their SoHo stomping grounds? Uh, we do. The inn that is lavishly rooted on West Broadway between Grand and Canal pays homage to the ever-evolving neighborhood of glorified artists, cast-iron cool kids and the ghosts of music-history’s past. To honor such iconic architecture, we set the mood accordingly for a staycation worthy of velvet couches (and booties), after-party aperitifs and a wardrobe fit for Debbie Harry. Forget the green room — we’ve already checked ourselves into the Soho Grand. No autographs, please.
THE SPOT: Soho Grand Hotel | 310 West Broadway, New York
THE STATS: 353 guest rooms, decadent retro-vibes in The Salon, Club Room and Grand Bar, ten suites, two penthouses for when you’re feeling grandeur, pet-friendly and/or pet goldfish (upon request) if you forget to pack your pup.
PERFECT FOR: A home-away-from-homme or teleporting back to 1975 for a glittering nightcap (drinks on Mick Jagger).
Can you smell us bringing home the bacon? After lounging oh-so-hard in The Salon as we re-fueled with morning-after delicacies, we quickly went from jaded to braided while getting flawless with the help of our entourage: MLE STUDIO and Onomie. In typical staycation fashion, we sipped on overflowing champagne, but this time, we slipped on signature Turkish bath robes by CUYANA. We took a self-guided tour through the city via the hand-sketched bathroom walls designed by the legendary artist himself, Saul Steinberg. Because who needs Google Maps?
No world tour (cough, cough – staycation) is complete without a killer wardrobe that offers multiple outfit changes for those long and glamorous nights scouring hotel lobbies, simultaneously taking cover from fan-girls and paparazzi alike. Before taking center stage at our next destination, we suited up in THE ARRIVALS jackets, alice + olivia separates, and Cuyana slip dresses and travel cases. Next stop: the Club Room.
Knock knock, We’ve arrived… As we strolled into pure rock-star decadence with sky high ceilings known as the Club Room, there was a piano ready to be played and cocktails ready to be slayed. The fireplace was lit – and so were the ornate interiors designed by Bill Sofield (some like it haute…). Debauchery at its finest? That’s our cue.
When the after-party flames have vanished and the palette cleansers have run out, there is only one thing left to silence: the V-unruly munchies. BOLLOCKS! Enter: The Grand Bar, party of three. Our hungry eyes read truffle beignets, lobster mac & cheese, burrata spaghetti, bitter greens & pear, roasted Icelandic cod, and steak frites…as we perused the menu, indecisiveness kicked in at the perfect time — we’ll take one of each.
Keep up with THE STAYCATIONERS as they take over new hotels in new cities each month. This round made possible by the Soho Grand Hotel, The Arrivals, Cuyana, alice + olivia, Onomie, and MLE Studio (Emily Rudman +Shaina Nicole Makeup, Andrew Inconstanti Hair, Yuri Osuka Nails)
Special thanks to our guest staycationer and British bombshell Sophie Sumner and OG staycationer Celine Bossart.
