THE STAYCATIONERS: SAGO HOTEL
Rainy, lazy Saturday afternoons call for a good old fashioned staycation with a matching color story, n’est-ce pas? Let’s proceed to the grey-hued Lower East Side minimalist haven THE STAYCATIONERS call home when in dire need of a quadri-balconied duplex penthouse — you know, to decompress. Shall we?

THE SPOT: Sago Hotel | 120 Allen Street
THE STATS: 20 rooms, monochromatic bliss, industrial-chic vibe, balconies galore
PERFECT FOR: A low-key staycay for the aesthetically inclined.

Yellow cabs masquerade as Matchbox cars from the top floor of the Sago Hotel, the latest hotel to grace lower Manhattan. In a symphony of exposed brick and steel beams against matte grey paint and cork headboards, Sago is a sweet, sleepy oasis amidst the LES buzz, the bi-level penthouse a prime embodiment of its understated glory. THE STAYCATIONERS set up shop on both ends of the marble staircase, alternating between dress-up downstairs and hair and a full-blown beauty sesh directly above, thanks to Bumble and bumble and the one and only Evelyn Garcia (a.k.a. @beautibylolita). And those nails? The handiwork of Eda Midori, who also doubles stealthily as a co-staycationer alongside @misselectrify herself, Amanda Ho. Squad game strong.

It’s no secret that the bustling neighborhood, much like any other on the island, is steeped in history. Sago’s energy is polarizing, channeling both the eclecticism of its surroundings and the modest roots of the ground upon which it stands — once an immigrant neighborhood, the Lower East Side’s rawness rears its head in the form of subtle industrial touches like cinder blocks masked by a layer of crisp, neutral paint. Symbolic? You be the judge.

What better way to bide time until one’s turn in the beauty chair than stirring up a cocktail overlooking Manhattan’s sparkling skyscrapers? Check this recipe:
2oz Ilegal Mezcal (reposado)
.75oz Amaro Lucano
2 dashes Fee Brothers black walnut bitters
Flamed orange zest
Stir contents over ice; strain into rocks glass. Flame orange zest into glass and discard peel.

Back to business. THE STAYCATIONERS donned PAIGE denim, Chiara Ferragni kicks, and accessories courtesy of The Frankie Shop, coupled with the perfect staycay accoutrements: local carbs. Speedy Romeo pizza and Maman baked goods pair together quite nicely, as it turns out.

After an obligatory bedside photoshoot, THE STAYCATIONERS headed for the penthouse’s main terrace, taking in the last of the rainy day’s mist hanging over the downtown skyline.

Keep up with THE STAYCATIONERS as they take over a new hotel each month. This round made possible by PAIGE, Chiara Ferragni Collection, Bumble and Bumble, Evelyn Garcia, The Frankie Shop, and our guest staycationers Eda Midori and Amanda Ho of Electrify Magazine. Very special thanks to Ilegal Mezcal, Amaro Lucano, Speedy Romeo, and Maman Bakery.
