THE STAYCATIONERS: HASBROUCK HOUSE

When the wilderness calls, you answer. And by wilderness we mean historic-mansion turned-modern-hotel in the mid-Hudson valley, of course. Less than two hours from NYC, Hasbrouck House is the bucolic luxury escape your Pinterest board has been begging for… so naturally, THE STAYCATIONERS packed their pjs, grabbed the gin, and hit the road in a brand new, ultra-spacious Buick Enclave Avenir (seat warmers and all) for some much-needed upstate R&R.

THE SPOT: Hasbrouck House | 3805 Main Street, Stone Ridge, NY

THE STATS: 20 thoughtfully-designed suites throughout four buildings, elegant farm-to-table fare at Butterfield restaurant, nightly bonfires, 40 park-like acres made for wandering, Club Room and Game Room for bibliophiles and pool sharks alike, Kiehl’s bath amenities

PERFECT FOR: A dose of fresh air in the chicest of settings

THE STAYCATIONERS aren’t always early birds. But when snuggly soft robes and face masks await, it makes it that much easier to rise and shine. On this particular chilly Stone Ridge morning, it was straight to the master bath of the Carriage House to get glowing. A custom detox face mask (made of red Moroccan clay, coconut oil, moringa, witch hazel, and honey) courtesy of Belle Bar was all it took to prep for the big day ahead.

Coffee and apple cider donuts in hand (served fresh daily at Hasbrouck’s reception), THE STAYCATIONERS were ready for a full day of small town excursions. At the top of their list? A local (and newly-opened) coffee establishment would most certainly do the trick. Thankfully, the Enclave was well equipped to make the journey a straight-up joyride.

With Bose speakers, WiFi hotspot and built-in GPS — saving them from getting lost on back country roads and saving their phone battery for more important things, like Boomerangs — THE STAYCATIONERS had everything they needed to enjoy the fall foliage at 45 MPH.

Small town, small world. That was the #vibe when THE STAYCATIONERS rolled through main street, and a jaunt into local coffee shop Carthaigh turned into a run-in with old friends (the kind who own cool coffee shops). A few lattes later (courtesy of owner and master barista Andrew McCarthy), it was back to the Buick to keep on keeping on. Good thing they had their Covry sunnies to keep the rays at bay the entire ride.

It wouldn’t be a true staycay without midday libations. After shopping and exploring about, THE STAYCATIONERS headed to Hasbrouck’s Club Room for Brockmans G&Ts and a little friendly competition over the Monopoly board. Snacking on Sakara bars to hold them over until dinner made the afternoon chill sesh even sweeter.

If you didn’t end the day in pure gluttony, did it even really happen? To celebrate a successful trip outside the city that never sleeps, THE STAYCATIONERS hit up the locally beloved (and Hasbrouck’s very own) Butterfield. Re-defining Hudson Valley cuisine, chef Aaron Abramson brings a thoughtful touch to the farm-to-table scene, working with local ingredients transformed into Michelin-worthy dishes.

Shared plates of shaved radishes, sweet and sour cauliflower, delicata squash rings and grilled shishito peppers started the crew off right, while the duck liver pâté and honey nut squash made sure no one left unsatiated. And because they couldn’t resist dessert and a few more rounds of Brockmans, THE STAYCATIONERS rung in the night the only way they knew how: with a toast to each other and another epic #staycay on the books.
